Four face federal drug charges in Pennsylvania

An investigation headed by the Pittsburgh office of the FBI has resulted in the arrest of four individuals in western Pennsylvania. Should the case move forward, the four individuals will face charges for violating multiple federal drug laws, and each will have an opportunity to present a criminal defense in a court of law. The FBI claims that the federal drug charges will play a significant role in disrupting the flow of illegal drugs through the state.

New indictment is added to existing federal drug case

Many Pennsylvania residents are aware of a drug case connected to a home owned by former Pittsburgh Steelers player Deshea Townsend. The matter includes allegations of drug trafficking, drug sales, money laundering and even murder. A federal drug case is already underway, and the grand jury recently released a new indictment. Two men are now accused of assisting individuals involved in the case for using drug money to fund the purchase of two properties.

Pennsylvania woman sentenced to prison in federal drug case

In Pennsylvania, a woman who pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges on July 28, 2014, has now been sentenced to 27 months in prison. News sources say that the 32-year-old Waynesboro woman appeared in front of a U.S. District Court judge for sentencing on Feb. 10. A release issued by the office of United States Attorney of the Middle District of Pennsylvania indicates that the woman was part of an organization that distributed cocaine hydrochloride in three states from 2010 until 2013.

Man sentenced for leading Pennsylvania drug ring

A 25-year-old Harrisburg man has been sentenced to 12 years and three months in prison for being the leader of a drug ring, according to an announcement by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Pennsylvania. He was accused of transporting heroin and cocaine from Harrisburg to State College for distribution in area hotel and motel rooms by his drug trafficking group.

21 accused of involvement in drug ring; 13 in custody

On Nov. 21, authorities took 13 individuals who are believed to be involved in a drug pipeline in Pennsylvania into custody. According to the report, the accused individuals, along with eight others named in the indictment, were allegedly transporting heroin and oxycodone from Philadelphia to Morgantown, West Virginia.

Man federally charged in Pennsylvania with drug trafficking

A 34-year-old Pittsburgh man was indicted by a federal grand jury on Nov. 11 for multiple offenses related to distribution and trafficking of both heroin and marijuana into the state. In addition to the drug-related charges, the man was also indicted for possessing more than 200 rounds of ammunition while having several prior felony convictions on his record.

Storeowners face drug charges

On Sept. 17, a 33-year-old business owner in Pennsylvania pleaded not guilty to drug charges brought on by federal prosecutors. The Glenshaw man is accused of conspiring to distribute heroin with two alleged members of a gang. The charges were filed in 2012, and the storeowner could receive 10 years to life in federal prison if he is convicted.

Federal drug trafficking laws apply to Pennsylvania

The penalties for the trafficking or distribution of illegal drugs in Pennsylvania, such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine or methamphetamines, are generally governed by both state and federal controlled substance laws. These laws and statutes outline the various factors involved with determining how to both prosecute and sentence each particular drug trafficking case.

Ex-cop pleads guilty in Pennsylvania drug case

A 38-year-old man formerly employed as a police officer in Hughestown has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking scheme. The Moosic resident was a member of the Houghestown Borough Police Department at the time of the alleged crimes, and the charges against him in part relate to the abuse of his position of trust as a member of the department.
