Drug sting leads to 12 arrests, multiple drug charges

According to papers filed by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office, drug charges have been filed against 12 people with reference to their role in an interstate drug trafficking ring. The tip that led to the investigation was called in more than a year ago.

Two weeks after the tip was received in 2018, authorities conducted a traffic stop, whereby they found a written ledger that detailed the ring's activities.

According to court documents, the ledger had information about distribution of pills in the state as well as in New York. The resulting investigation demonstrated that the group allegedly used group text messaging to both advertise drugs and to complete drug deals in parking areas in convenience stores in both states. Wire transfers were also conducted at different grocery stores, as well as through cellphone applications. Oxycodone, cocaine and marijuana were the drugs being distributed, and the probe also found two illegally possessed guns.

The alleged leader of the ring was identified as a 41-year-old man, and he was resultantly charged with a number of drug charges, including drug delivery resulting in death of a woman in Pennsylvania. According to court documents, the alleged leader got drugs from another state and travelled to Pennsylvania to give them to his customers.

Drug charges, especially like those facing the accused in this scenario, should be taken very seriously. Depending on the situation, people can be facing state, federal or a combination of both, drug charges. The resulting penalties can be harsh, and people can even find themselves spending the rest of their lives in prison. There are defense and plea options available to those facing such charges, so consulting an experienced attorney to discuss one's options can be beneficial.
