Man faces DWI charges, fleeing law enforcement and more

It is natural for people in Butler who are being stopped by law enforcement to be nervous and concerned as to what will happen. This is especially true if there is a chance that they will face charges for driving while intoxicated. Although the potential consequences for DWI charges can be significant, the situation can be made worse if the person decides to flee from law enforcement.

A 23-year-old man is facing multiple charges after fleeing a traffic stop, crashing into the vehicle of state trooper and injuring him. At approximately 2 a.m., law enforcement tried to stop a pickup truck for going through a stop sign. The driver stopped for officers. However, when an officer requested that the man get out of the truck because he smelled alcohol, the driver took off. The driver was said to have confessed to have been drinking alcohol. There was a chase.

At one point, the vehicle stopped and four passengers exited the vehicle. The driver then took off again. The doors were still open and the passengers were almost hit. When officers disabled the truck, the driver then hit the gas and crashed into a cruiser. He then drove away. The vehicle was found around three hours later. The driver was still behind the wheel, but had passed out. He was arrested. The officer had an injury to his upper body and was hospitalized. There was substantial damaged to the cruiser.

Being arrested for DWI is difficult enough, but when they are combined with other illegal acts like escaping law enforcement, crashing into a law enforcement vehicle and other charges, there can be hefty jail time and life-changing potential consequences. It can be difficult to combat these charges, but there are avenues to deal with the case. Perhaps it is possible to reach a plea agreement to reduce some of the charges. Some of the allegations might even be dropped. No matter what, it is critical to have a law firm that has a history of assisting clients with DUI defense and other criminal allegations to reach a reasonable outcome. Before saying or doing anything else, calling a lawyer is the first step toward crafting a defense.
