Man faces DWI offenses and other charges after crash into people

| May 23, 2019 | Dui Defense |

For drivers in Butler County and across Pennsylvania, being charged with driving while intoxicated can result in severe penalties, lost driving privileges and jail time. Along with DWI offenses, there can be other charges if there was an accident and people were injured or even killed. Although DWI is an irresponsible act, those who are arrested for DWI have the right to a legal defense to avoid the worse potential consequences. A strong defense is imperative to assess the situation and attempt to achieve a satisfactory result. This is especially true when people are hit and injured by a driver who is accused of having been operating a vehicle under the influence.

According to recent reports, a 23-year-old man was arrested on several charges, including DWI and crashing into people outside a building. The incident occurred in the early morning hours at around 2:30 a.m. According to the investigation, the man was said to have been drinking alcohol when his Ford Fiesta crashed into people and injured a 20-year-old male. The driver subsequently exited the vehicle and ran away. A law enforcement officer caught and arrested him.

There was a passenger in the vehicle who said the driver had been drinking. The injured man broke his nose and was diagnosed with a concussion. He also had other injuries and was hospitalized. The driver was taken for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol concentration. He faces DWI, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and aggravated assault by vehicle charges, and more.

When there is an arrest for DWI and an accident in which people were injured, the driver will need to consider all the possible alternatives for an effective defense. For example, when the driver is accused of being under the influence, it does not necessarily mean that the BAC test will show that he or she was legally drunk. Another example is if the driver might have taken medication or the testing procedure was faulty. Regarding the accident and injuries, perhaps a plea bargain can be discussed in which some of the charges can be dropped. There might even be the foundation to get an acquittal if the evidence is not sufficient.

Since law enforcement and prosecutors are aggressive in pursuing a conviction for drivers who are arrested for DWI offenses, it is crucial that the driver have a strong DUI defense strategy.
