Man faces DWI offenses and weapons charges after hit-and-run

| Mar 21, 2019 | Dui Defense |

Law enforcement in Butler and the surrounding areas of Pennsylvania treat drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs very seriously. Since these acts can cause injuries and fatalities, there is great vigilance to stop and arrest drivers who exhibit signs of intoxication. In some instances, there is a motor vehicle accident and the driver was alleged to have been committing DWI offenses. Often, there are other factors that will increase the charges to greater severity. Along with that will come harsher penalties and potential consequences. After an arrest, having legal advice is crucial regardless of the circumstances.

A 42-year-old man from West Virginia was arrested on multiple offenses in Pittsburgh. Officers were contacted in the early-morning hours at around 1:15 a.m. According to the investigation, he crashed into two vehicles as he drove the wrong way on the street. When he was caught, officers charged him with DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and other crimes. Upon searching the vehicle, the officers claimed to have found four guns. He did not have permits for the weapons. There were no injuries and the investigation is continuing.

When people are arrested, the charges can vary. For those arrested for DUI, there is one set of issues they must be concerned about like a driver’s license suspension, fines and perhaps jail time. These penalties generally pale in comparison to more serious criminal charges like illegal weapons possession. Combining these accusations can leave a person dealing with the prospect of extended jail time, a criminal record and long-term problems. Fortunately, in all situations, there are many avenues to lodge a defense. There could be an opportunity to have a plea bargain to reduce the charges. There might even be a strategy to gain an acquittal. When confronted with these problems, having legal advice is a must.

A man from West Virginia was arrested in Pennsylvania on a slew of charges related to DUI and weapons possession. Although the charges are serious, it is imperative that he have a strong defense with a law firm that understands all aspects of criminal cases from DUI defense to weapons charges. Before doing or saying anything, anyone dealing with these charges individually or in combination should have legal representation.
