You can defend a tax evasion charge

Tax evasion can get you into deep trouble with the law, but it is possible to be accused of this crime without meaning to participate in it. For example, if you misreport your income accidentally, then you didn't intend to defraud the government. If you can prove that fact, then you could defend yourself successfully.

Tax evasion is when you unlawfully pay less tax than the law mandates on purpose. You could face time in prison, a fine or both if you're convicted. Failing to file your tax return isn't evasion in itself if it happens once or twice. Ite's a simple misdemeanor. However, if you do this regularly, it can show the prosecution that you intended to avoid paying taxes. If that pattern of failing to pay is made obvious enough, then you can be charged with a felony.

To be convicted, the prosecution has to prove its case against you beyond a reasonable doubt. If you can make a jury or judge doubt that you intended to misfile or fail to file your taxes, then you have a chance of winning your case.

What could show the prosecution and judge that you were attempting to avoid taxes? Acts like placing your assets in someone else's name, failing to pay taxes for several years along with failing to file tax returns and dealing in cash regularly to avoid handling money that the government could track.

Defending yourself is the first step you should take after being accused. There are a number of legal options that you have to protect yourself with.
