Authorities claim to have been engaged in an investigation involving drugs for more than a year. Recently, they made a number of arrests in connection with this investigation. Seventeen people in Pennsylvania now stand accused in the supposed drug conspiracy.
Among charges filed against the 17 individuals are distribution and possession of illegal drugs. Reportedly, the defendants are also accused of various weapons violations, theft and other criminal activity. Various agencies working with the Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation are said to have joined in the year-long task force that led to the arrests. Marijuana, cocaine, LSD and prescription narcotics are listed as some of the drugs involved in the group's alleged drug activities.
Officers apparently used various types of surveillance techniques during their investigation. Some agents also appear to have made undercover drug purchases from those involved. The Pennsylvania Attorney General said that her office is working to fight against the drug epidemic throughout the state to safeguard all members of the community.
Investigators have announced that more charges may be pending in the recent drug conspiracy arrests. The preliminary arraignments for the 17 arrested will take place in a Centre County Magisterial District court. Ages of those involved range from 19 to 45; there was also one juvenile who now faces 10 counts of various drug-related crimes. The criminal justice process for someone under the age of 18 will typically vary from that for an adult. A concerned parent is able to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney to gain a better understanding of the laws and regulations that govern such matters.
