Federal and state agents combined investigative efforts and searched the home of a Pennsylvania man. He has since been accused in federal court of producing child pornography. Authorities say they found thousands of illicit images stored on various electronic devices in the man's home. Whether agents acted with appropriate authority when they conducted the search and seizure is something a defense attorney would want to investigate. If anything seems awry, the proffered evidence may be challenged in court.
The 73-year-old man in question lives in Gettysburg. Apparently, he had custody of several minor aged children. He is accused of producing video films of himself and the children engaging in various sexual acts.
The man was arrested some time in March 2016. He has remained in custody ever since that time. Federal sentencing guidelines provide, upon conviction, for a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, with a mandate to serve at least 15 of those years in situations involving sex crimes such as those alleged in this case. Penalties also may include supervised release upon release and substantial monetary fines. In this situation, a federal plea agreement has apparently been reached, but there are also state charges involving the same children; it is not yet known if the federal plea agreement will satisfy state charges, as well.
Any person who has become subject in a federal investigation on suspicion of child pornography is able to request immediate assistance from a criminal defense attorney. Building a strong defense is typically necessary to combat any tactic or strategy that may be used against a defendant in court. Acting alongside experienced and aggressive defense assistance in Pennsylvania may increase one's chances of obtaining positive results.
