Drugs are a big money-making business in many Pennsylvania areas. The trouble is, in some situations, the types of drugs and the ways they are sold and/or used are illegal. Those suspected of drug-related crimes often have long legal battles ahead. A recent police bust netted around 30 arrests, and authorities say they are seeking 10 others in connection with the alleged drug trafficking incidents.
An investigation, known as Operation Antidote, went on for more than two years. As part of the drug enforcement operation, police recently raided 12 different homes. This apparently resulted in police claiming to have seized substantial amounts of drugs, weapons and money.
Reportedly, cocaine, marijuana and heroin were among the drugs officers say they found during searches of the homes. A list of the names and ages of the additional suspects currently being sought by police was recently published online. Authorities have actually offered cash awards for any tips citizens might make that lead to more arrests.
Being convicted of drug trafficking in Pennsylvania could cost someone his or her reputation. This is why it is advisable to seek immediate legal guidance when arrested, or even beforehand if one is made aware of being a subject in a federal inquiry. The penalties for such convictions typically include very lengthy prison terms and high monetary fines. However, there are often several approaches an experienced criminal defense attorney can take to help a defendant avoid incarceration and minimize the negative repercussions of the situation both during and following a trial.
