A Pennsylvania man is facing a serious set of circumstances after being arrested and charged with serious crimes against children. The case has made headlines across the region, with many people calling for the head of a man accused of both owning and producing child pornography. The matter has not yet reached a court of law, but that fact has not stopped many from making their own judgments in the case.
The man is a resident of Lehigh County, and is 39 years old. Prosecutors say that he approached two minors in an effort to convince them to engage in sexual activity. He is alleged to have planned to capture that activity on video, for the purpose of distributing the footage online.
It is alleged that the man had photos on his cell phone that were pornographic in nature and included children under the age of 12. He is also alleged to have contacted minors using the social media site Facebook and asking them to send him nude photos of themselves. He is being charged with enticing a minor, possession of child pornography and attempted production of child pornography.
Pennsylvania readers should be aware that while crimes that victimize children are among the most heinous of acts, not every individual accused of such a crime is eventually found to be guilty. In many cases, child pornography charges, such as the ones mentioned above, are dropped or are ultimately found to be false by a court of law. Media coverage of these charges tends to be heavy-handed, and the views of the suspect are almost never shared with the public. So far, there may not be sufficient evidence to make as assumption of innocence or guilt in the case, but there is no question that our legal system allows any suspect to be presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
