Pennsylvania man to be sentenced in $1.3 million fraud case

Pennsylvania readers may recall hearing media reports in recent years regarding a fraud case involving a generator-selling scam. Most recently, reports have indicated that the case against the Pennsylvania man accused of fraudulent sales transactions with consumers has entered the sentencing phase. Cases such as this one may reinforce what readers already know -- that in our state, criminal charges of fraud can carry strict consequences.

Between 2006 and 2010, a 38-year-old Pennsylvania man purportedly operated a scheme selling generators and accepting money via the wire, but he never delivered on the products. In 2012, the man pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering and wire fraud. Federal prosecutors further alleged that, while the case was active last year, the man received another payment of $250,000 for a product he had no intention of delivering.

In April 2013, the man pleaded guilty a second time to felony charges. In total, it is said that he defrauded $1.3 million while operating the schemes. The case may soon come to a close as his case has now entered the sentencing phase, and he is scheduled to appear before a federal judge in the upcoming weeks.

There are many reasons why an individual may plead guilty to the charges against them. In some cases, it could be that, by pleading guilty, their charges are reduced, or they may receive a lesser sentence for admitting the crime. In this case, it is unknown what the details are; however, what can be surmised is that this man likely has spent the duration of this fraud case working hard to secure the best outcome possible for his future.
