Pennsylvania college student faces child pornography charges

Of all the Internet crimes that can be committed, those involving children perhaps have the greatest impact on an individual's personal and professional life. Whether the accused person is convicted or not, he or she will undoubtedly be under a permanent cloud of suspicion in the eyes of the public. Therefore, it is imperative for anyone facing such a charge to have a strong criminal defense. A 22-year-old Pennsylvania college student has been arrested on child pornography charges, and he is now awaiting his preliminary hearing.

The Slippery Rock University student has been charged with nine criminal counts. Three are for the distribution of child pornography and five are for possession. He was also charged for illegally using a communications facility.

Investigators from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office allege that the man distributed the child pornography via his laptop. They recently upgraded software that has enabled them to crack down on child porn distributors by scanning file-sharing networks. The accused is currently being held in jail on a $50,000 cash bond. He is forbidden from using the Internet or having any contact with children.

The accused man must now fight an uphill battle against the child pornography charges and the stigma surrounding his alleged crime. The consequences he faces if convicted of these crimes are extremely serious. In addition to serving prison time, he may have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He may do well to find an aggressive legal team that will examine all aspects of the investigation that led to his arrest and stand up for his rights in court.
