Man charged with drug possession after being dragged by car

An Allegheny County man who was injured after being dragged by a car for several feet in July now faces drug paraphernalia possession charges in connection with the incidents. Police say that what they initially described as a road rage incident was actually a disputed drug deal.

The defendant, a 19-year-old man, was dragged by a car driven by a 17-year-old boy while the older teen hung out of the window. He was thrown from the car and was seriously injured. At first, the incident was described as an episode of road rage over a traffic dispute between the drivers, who had not met before.

But police claim that what happened was that the 19-year-old tried to buy half a pound of marijuana from the 17-year-old and his companion, and 18-year-old man. The older teen allegedly gave the pair $2,000 in exchange for several small bags of what turned out to be mulch.

When the defendant discovered the ruse, officers say, he got into his car and pursued the other two males. When he caught up with them, he reached into the driver's side window to try to get his money back, according to authorities. The driver stepped on the gas as the defendant hung onto the door before eventually being thrown off.

Both the driver and his passenger have been charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, with the driver facing juvenile charges. But the defendant has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. An article about the arrests does not specify what paraphernalia police accuse him of having or how it was discovered.
