Police in Indiana Township, Pennsylvania are claiming that a local man threatened to shoot them as the officers were holding his mother at the police station. The man was arrested and charged with 16 counts related to the incident, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. It does not appear that the man had a gun at the scene.
A former member of the Pittsburgh Police Department who was charged with promoting prostitution and intent to deal heroin has had most of the charges against him dropped. The Allegheny County district attorney's office announced that it was dropping six of the nine charges against the 44-year-old man, who resigned from the police force in September.
Four men face federal charges related to forging checks and recruiting homeless people in Pittsburgh to cash them, according to a recent article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Charges against the men, all of whom are from Atlanta, included identity theft, possession of counterfeit checks and conspiracy. They were arrested in Monroeville on Oct. 6.

A 30-year-old Jeannette, Pennsylvania man has been in jail since Aug. 18 after a grand jury indicted him on federal charges of threatening a police officer over the Internet. His attorney says the charges violate her client's First Amendment rights to free speech and did not constitute a "true threat" to the officer.
A Harrisburg, Pennsylvania man accused of embezzlement from a local fire department will not face trial after the York County court ruled that he is not mentally competent to mount a defense. The man suffered a stroke in 2010 and currently lives in an assisted living facility.
A 33-year-old North Wales, Pennsylvania man recently pleaded guilty in Montgomery County to charges of possession of child pornography. Authorities said that the man used a laptop at his home to visit a file sharing website that contained computer files depicting child pornography. The man will be evaluated to determine whether he should be declared a sexually violent predator, then sentenced to prison.
Federal law enforcement agents recently arrested 28 men and women in Colorado and elsewhere on gun and drug charges. The government accuses the arrested people of being part of "outlaw motorcycle gangs" and dealing in drugs and illegal guns. Eight of the people were arrested in Colorado.
