First corporate fraud charges, now tax offenses too

A man outside the state of Pennsylvania is facing several challenges regarding various federal charges that have been filed against him. At an earlier point in time, he was charged with corporate fraud. On a recent Thursday, more problems arose when a grand jury charged him with tax crimes. In situations such as this, a person accused often has much at stake, including his or her personal and professional reputation, and quite possibly, his or her freedom.

The 63-year-old man in this particular situation was originally indicted in February 2016 along with another 66-year-old woman. They were both accused of billing the woman's employer at the time (a toy store in another area) approximately $3 million in fraudulent charges. Authorities claim they had the funds sent to another company that the two of them controlled.

The new charges recently filed against the man involve alleged false filings of corporate and international tax returns. The office of the U.S. Attorney General has claimed the man defrauded the federal government of more than $800,000 by understating taxable income. The six counts against him reportedly carry up to three years in prison per count if convicted.

Being charged with corporate fraud and tax crimes at the federal level is obviously a very serious matter. Anyone in Pennsylvania facing problems regarding these or other criminal issues may enlist the assistance of a skilled criminal defense attorney. Acting alongside experienced counsel can often help minimize the potential negative impact of a particular situation and is often crucial toward obtaining positive results in court.
