Judge defers sentencing in Pennsylvania internet sex crime case

In certain situations, a judge may rule that sentencing against a defendant is to be delayed in order for authorities to conduct a background investigation of the accused. During this type of legal process, a defendant may greatly rely on the guidance of a criminal attorney to determine how best to proceed under such circumstances. When the subject at hand includes a conviction for an internet sex crime in Pennsylvania, the stakes are often high. Understandably, any defendant facing a similar situation will want to make certain that all available options for a strong defense are explored.

At the time of his arrest last December, police found evidence on his personal computer that he possessed and distributed materials of child pornography. The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to felony charges in a Montgomery County court. He is currently free on bail, pending the results of a pre-sentence investigation ordered by the judge.

The man must also submit to an evaluation by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board. This group may determine whether he should be classified as a violent sexual predator. Under such classification, probation and parole restrictions are typically far more stringent.

Reportedly, five others were also arrested in the incident involving the Pennsylvania man. Those arrests also took place in December 2014 after authorities claimed that an investigation revealed evidence of an internet sex crime that exploited children and used file sharing software to distribute lewd materials. No further information was reported concerning the status of the criminal proceedings against the other individuals charged.
