Man faces Pennsylvania child pornography charges for sharing porn

When residents in a community find out that someone among them has been charged with child pornography, they may automatically feel outraged. However, the person who faces these charges are not guilty unless, and only if, enough evidence supports this. It is the state of Pennsylvania's burden to prove that a person's child pornography charges are established beyond a reasonable doubt.

One man is in this situation in Pennsylvania after police arrested him following an investigation. Authorities said they found out that he had been disseminating child pornography over the Internet. The investigation that led to this discovery took five months.

The man faces more than 500 felony counts involving the sharing of child pornography as well as the possession of this material. Police found several videos and digital pictures on his computer that represented porn involving children. The man, who was 65 years old, was released on a bail of $100,000.

When somebody faces child pornography charges, the fact that he is actually guilty of the allegations made must be proved by the Pennsylvania government in court. Understandably, child pornography is a serious crime that can affect a person who is convicted of it for the rest of their life. Not only does that person always have to report any new addresses to authorities, but also they are typically not allowed to be near daycare centers, schools or other places where children congregate. Nevertheless, an accusation is a far cry from a conviction, and the accused individual is protected by a broad range of legal rights to ensure that the criminal proceedings are conducted fairly and before an impartial court.
