Pennsylvania man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

When a person is accused of a sex-related crime involving a child, emotions in the community can run wild. However, in this type of case, the individual who has been charged with the crime has the right to defend themselves because by law, they are innocent until proved guilty. It is the state's responsibility to ultimately prove guilt when a person faces child pornography charges.

One man in Pennsylvania now faces time in jail after being charged with child pornography following a police investigation. Police said they found a home computer that featured pornographic movie files involving kids. The accused man later confessed to possessing child pornography at his home.

This individual essentially pleaded guilty to felony charges of child pornography and of using a computer to committee a crime. The man now must be evaluated psychosexually. He also may be forced to be classified as a sexually violent predator, which involves updating authorities and the community on changes in his housing.

When a person faces child pornography charges, the government assumes the burden of proof in a court of law. In addition, laws must be followed when acquiring evidence. For instance, computer files or other records that authorities seize from a person must be acquired within Pennsylvania's rigid search and seizure guidelines. Child pornography charges are serious because a person who is convicted of these charges will suffer long-term consequences, such as always having to report their address to police as well as having to engage in required counseling. A person who faces charges related to sex crimes has the right to defend themselves against these allegations and remains innocent in the eyes of the law unless and until prosecutors ultimately achieve their strict measure of proof.
