Lottery suspending sales at stores with synthetic drug arrests

The state of Pennsylvania made the sale of synthetic marijuana illegal starting last August. Another state institution is also punishing local businesses suspected of selling the product: the Pennsylvania Lottery has made a policy of suspended sales of its tickets at stores where a drug arrest has taken place, but before any convictions. A spokeswoman for the lottery says it has revoked "several dozen" licenses to sell tickets just this year based on this policy.

Man denies making Internet video threatening Pitt info leak

Federal authorities have arrested a man on suspicion that he posted a threat on the Internet to expose private information from the University of Pittsburgh. But the man says he did not create the video and has no connection with the university.

White collar defendant says prosecutors must recuse themselves

A Pittsburgh-area businessman under indictment for tax fraud is asking the federal judge overseeing the case to disqualify the prosecutors from the local U.S. Attorney's Office from trying his case because one of the attorneys heard him give "confidential information related directly" to the case when she was working for a private firm.

Arrested Pittsburgh-area man labeled 'leader' of meth ring

Based on the words of an unnamed informant and a man charged with manufacturing and distributing methamphetamines, authorities are calling a Lawrence County man the ringleader of a Pittsburgh-area drug dealing operation. Federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested the man after a series of raids of New Castle homes where, they said, they found evidence that the man had been making and storing meth since January.

IRS pursuing tax evasion charges against Lauryn Hill

The Internal Revenue Service has been aggressively pursuing criminal charges against those in Pittsburgh and across the country the agency says have not kept up on their federal income taxes. According to a recent article, the IRS has opened more than 13,000 investigations and referred around 9,000 cases to federal prosecutors for tax-related criminal charges in the past three years.

Pittsburgh-area doctor blamed for patient's drug overdose

A physician who practiced in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area recently pleaded guilty to federal charges that he prescribed pain medication to patients who did not need them. The mother of one of his patients is accusing the doctor of causing the patient's death, though he was not charged in connection to that.

Pittsburgh man faces additional drug charges while on house arrest

A man living near Pittsburgh is in trouble with the law once again after a large amount of drugs were allegedly found in his home. He now faces drug charges including possession of a controlled substance and intent to deliver a controlled substance.
