Western Pennsylvania man charged in threat to FBI agent

A Youngwood, Pennsylvania, man has been charged with making threats to an FBI agent over the telephone. FBI agents conducted a raid of the home the suspect shares with his parents late on Jan. 6, which led to an affidavit of probable cause to be filed in federal court the following Monday. The suspect, a former dentist, has a pattern of unusual behavior related to federal government officials and the allegedly threatened agent.

The agent and the suspect met at Pittsburgh International Airport on Feb. 17, 2011, when airport security flagged the suspect as a "suspicious person." An article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review does not explain what caused the man to be flagged. The FBI agent apparently became involved in the incident, but no charges were ever filed against the man.

About a month later, the agent received a voice mail message from a man identifying himself as a bailiff for a federal judge in Seattle. The message asked the agent to call another federal judge in Seattle over an ongoing case. An investigation determined that the suspect had made the call. The suspect allegedly had been making several calls to the Seattle judge, calling on the court to prosecute Microsoft found Bill Gates.

The FBI interrogated the man over the voice mail and the calls stopped, until Jan. 5, the FBI said. That day, the agent received a new message from a man identifying himself as the suspect. In a rambling, profanity-laced message, the suspect allegedly claimed he was under FBI protection because he was a "witness" for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. The caller also threatened to kill the agent if he ever tried to contact the suspect again.

The call was allegedly traced to the suspect's home. Agents raided the home and arrested him. He was in federal custody as of Jan. 10.

The suspect, 44, worked as a dentist in Youngwood until 2001, when he lost his license.

It will be interesting to see if any possible mental health issues will arise as part of the suspect's defense.
