STEPHEN MISKO: Homicide is a general charge. Within the charge of homicide, there's first degree murder, second degree murder, and third degree murder. There's also voluntary and involuntary manslaughter.
Homicide deals with either an intentional act or a negligent act. Intentional acts are murder. Manslaughter is a crime where death results but during the course of heat of passion. A typical case may be a husband/wife arguing and there's some type of spontaneous death that results. Involuntary manslaughter is a crime that deals with negligence.
